  The toad skin melon has its origin in south Asia, where wild species are to be found. Apparently they come from Iran and have spread from there to Egypt. Toad skin Melons are grown in virtually every country in the world that has a warm, low rainfall climate. Of the many countries that produce toad skin melons, the main ones are China, Iran and Spain. Toad skin melon is one of the most commonly consumed fruits and ranks fourth in the world for oranges, bananas and grapes.

   

  Piel de Sapo (Toad Skin Melon) is the most widely cultivated melon in Spain. It forms large egg-shaped fruits, each about 2kg to 4kg in weight, with a dark green, torn shell and white, juicy and very sweet flesh, similar to that of honeydew melon.
